New Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers wants to sign Aston Villa midfielder

Leicester City are interested in Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.

The Foxes’ new boss, Brendan Rodgers, knows all about the 24-year-old from his time in Scotland and wants to sign him in the summer, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

Rodgers tried to sign McGinn for Celtic last summer from Hibernian but lost out to Championship side Villa.

McGinn has had an impressive first season in England with Villa and could be rewarded with a move up to the Premier League in the near future.

The Scotland international, who has 13 caps to his name, started his career with St Mirren and rose up through their youth ranks. He broke into their first-team as a youngster and went onto play 98 games for them in the Scottish Premiership.

McGinn then left to join Hibernian, who at the time were in the Scottish Championship. He became a key player for the Edinburgh side and helped them win the Scottish Cup and the Championship title during his time there.

Brendan Rodgers tried to sign him on a couple of occasions for Celtic but his offers were rebuffed by Hibs. However, the former Swansea City and Liverpool boss could get his chance to manage McGinn this summer if his new club Leicester make Villa an offer they cannot refuse.

Villa fans will be desperate to keep hold of him after the season he has had, but speculation is always going to arise when a player is doing well.
