If he has signed a new deal at Bramall Lane, O’Connell will join fellow first-team stars Billy Sharp and Enda Stevens in committing their future to Sheffield United. Both Sharp and Stevens penned new deals with the club last week.
Sheffield United are well in the fight for promotion to the Premier League this season and look set to go to battle with Norwich City and Leeds United for the Championship title, and defender Jack O’Connell has played an important role in their season so far.
The centre-back has been in impressive form once again for the Blades throughout the 2018/19 campaign, playing in 31 out of 34 league games so far, picking up a goal and two assists along the way as well.
He has been a mainstay in Chris Wilder’s side since his arrival from Brentford back in the summer of 2016. O’Connell’s emergence into the first-team upon arrival helped Blades win promotion back to the Championship and he has since helped them push up the table and in with a chance of winning the title and promotion to the top flight.
The defender has played 130 games for the club since his arrival and with a new deal reportedly on the cards, he looks set to add to that total.
