Aston Villa keen on Barnsley defender ahead of next season

Aston Villa are keen on Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay.

Dean Smith’s side have already got one eye on summer recruitment and are keeping an eye on the 23-year-old, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Villa have had a disappointing campaign and will be looking for an overhaul of their squad this summer with plenty of comings and goings expected.

Smith will be active in the transfer window and eager to bring in his own type of players.

Lindsay has emerged as a target after impressing for Barnsley in League One this season. He has played a key part in their rise to 2nd in the third tier.

He started his career in his native Scotland with Partick Thistle and rose through the youth ranks there. He broke into their first-team after enjoying loan spells at Scottish lower league sides Alloa Athletic and Airdrie as a youngster.

Lindsay went onto play 71 games for Partick in the Scottish Premier League before he was snapped up by Barnsley in 2017. He turned down a move to Oxford United in favour of a move to Yorkshire.

He couldn’t prevent the Tykes from relegation from the Championship in his debut season at Oakwell but has managed to help them be in contention for a return there now.

Lindsay has a bright future ahead of him and would be a shrewd signing by Aston Villa, whose fans will be desperate for this campaign to end.
