According to The Sun, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay was close to joining Championship side West Brom on loan for the rest of the season before the Red Devils blocked a move away.
West Brom pushed for the loan signing of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay on transfer deadline day, a report from The Sun has claimed.
Transfer deadline day was a busy day for Darren Moore and West Brom. They brought in Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen and Jefferson Montero of fellow Championship side Swansea City on loan for the rest of the season. And, they nearly added a fourth player to their list of arrivals.
McTominay was believed to be willing to drop down to the Championship to look for first team football, with Darren Moore keen to bring in a midfielder for the second half of the season.
However, a potential deal for McTominay fell through with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to keep the 22-year-old after the departure of centre-midfielder Marouane Fellaini to Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng. With him remaining with the Red Devils, he will battle it out with Brazilian midfielder Fred for a place in the first team squad.
McTominay has been in and out of the Manchester United team this season, playing eight times in the Premier League but he has made just two substitute appearances since the appointment of Solskjaer as caretaker manager.
He emerged into the first team picture at Old Trafford during the second half of the 2017/18 season, making 23 appearances for throughout last season, including four games in the Champions League.
