No snub for former Barnsley midfielder Mallan on Heckingbottom’s Hibs debut

Former Barnsley midfielder Stevie Mallan has been included in new Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom’s first starting XI for this afternoon’s Ladbrokes Premiership clash with Hamilton Academical at Easter Road.

The 22-year-old Glasgow-born midfielder was previously signed by Heckingbottom during his time at Oakwell but was fielded on just five occasions before his manager departed for Leeds United.

The pair have now been reunited at Hibernian with Heckingbottom having been appointed the club’s next manager in midweek and Mallan has been included in the Wembley double-winner’s first starting XI for this afternoon’s fixture against Hamilton Academical.

Mallan’s spell in South Yorkshire lasted just 14 months with the player having joined current club Hibs last summer for an undisclosed fee. The midfielder has played an important role in Leith this season and has rebuilt his reputation for scoring great goals from the centre of the park. Mallan has made 34 appearances for The Hibees in all competitions this season in which he has contributed an impressive 11 goals.

Prior to his short spell with Barnsley, Mallan started his career with St Mirren where he racked up more than 100 senior appearances for the club. The player also has represented Scotland at Under-21 level and he could be in-line for senior international honours should he continue his good form in green and white.
