Promotion chasing Portsmouth in talks with first-team duo over new contracts

Portsmouth are in talks with midfield duo Gareth Evans and Nathan Thompson over new contracts.

Both of their current deals are due to expire at the end of the season, as per a report by The Portsmouth News.

Pompey are currently 4th in League One and three points behind Barnsley in the automatic promotion places with 15 games left of the season.

Midfielder Dion Donohue, who has made 11 appearances in this campaign, is also out of contract in June. Pompey hold an option to extend his deal by a further year but will make a decision on that in a few months’ time.

Their manager, Kenny Jackett, has said, as per The Portsmouth News: “We will make the decision (about Donohue) at the end of the season. There’s no panic at the minute. We will take everything into account. This season has been a frustrating one for Dion because he’s shown glimpses of good potential”

“But through one reason or another, or one injury or another, he’s not been able to string a consistent period together”.

Donohue joined the club from Chesterfield two years ago and was a key player for Pompey last season but has had his problems with injuries in this one.

Portsmouth face a tricky task against Southend United at Roots Hall today and will be looking to boost their promotion push with three points.
