Prolific Doncaster Rovers striker to weigh up his options in the summer

Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis will weigh up his options in the summer.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form for the Yorkshire side over the past two-and-a-half seasons and will assess his future at the end of the campaign, as per a report by the Sunderland Echo.

League One promotion hopefuls Sunderland had bids turned down for Marquis on transfer deadline day in January.

He has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season for Grant McCann’s Donny, meaning he total tally for them is 63 goals in 137 games altogether. Prior to his move to the Rovers, Marquis played for Millwall but had various loan spells away with the likes of Portsmouth, Gillingham and Leyton Orient, amongst others.

This is what he had to say on Sunderland’s interest in him last month, as per the Sunderland Echo: “After training I sat down with the manager. It was pretty clear what the manager, Gavin Baldwin [chief executive] and the club’s stance was – I wasn’t going anywhere. That was fine and that was it”

Marquis has admitted a summer departure is a possibility: “The summer is a different time, things may change. My contract will be going into my last year and the club’s approach may be different”

“I’ve always said I want to play as high as possible, I want to challenge myself and I want to improve.  I’m doing that at the minute at Doncaster. In the summer it may be a different story”.
