Bolton Wanderers midfielder being watched by England officials

Bolton Wanderers prospect Luca Connell is understood to be being watched by representatives from the England set-up according to reports by The Sun.

The 17-year-old Liverpool-born midfielder is a product of the Lancashire club’s academy system and the youngster was handed his senior debut for Wanderers last month in an Emirates FA Cup tie against Walsall.

Connell qualifies to represent the Republic of Ireland on the international stage and he has already featured for the nation at both Under-17 and Under-18 levels. The midfielder is able to change his allegiance to the country of his birth and it is being reported that officials from the England national side are keeping a keen eye on the player’s development.

Bolton Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson tested Connell’s ability in two Emirates FA Cup ties before handing the player a chance to impress in the Sky Bet Championship. The midfielder has taken those opportunities with both hands and has now featured in three of The Trotters’ last four league matches.

Connell missed the midweek 1-0 win at Birmingham City with a calf injury sustained in the club’s previous fixture against Preston North End. The problem has been assessed and it is not thought to be serious. The midfielder could return to first team action within the next fortnight as Wanderers look to succeed in their battle against relegation.
