Leeds United’s January arrival confirms offer from Premier League club prior to Elland Road move

Leeds United completed the signing of Polish youngster Mateusz Bogusz during the January transfer window, beating opposition to the 17-year-old’s signature.

Leeds United were victorious in their chase to sign wonderkid Mateusz Bogusz from Polish side Ruch Chorzow in the January transfer window.

The Championship leaders led a pack of clubs keen to sign the youngster. Italian giants Napoli offered him a trial at the club, only for their approach to be rejected by Ruch Chorzow, French outfit Stade Reims were also credited with interest, along with Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Now, speaking to Polish news outlet Weszlo, Bogusz has revealed that he was offered a deal at Brighton prior to joining Leeds.

Yes, I had. I was in both of these clubs before I signed the contract,” Bogusz said when asked if he had been offered a deal by Brighton.

“Leeds ‘came over’ to me, I thought it was the perfect place for me to take another step in my career.”

The midfielder said that everything Leeds offered him convinced him to move to Elland Road instead. He went on to add that he hopes to play in the Premier League with his new club.

“The club, all its facilities, my development plan. Everything that Leeds offered me was convincing. Hence a 2.5-year contract with the possibility of extension. And in perspective, I hope, playing in the Premier League.”

Prior to his move to England, Bogusz had been plying his trade in the second and third tiers of Polish football, also playing for Poland’s Under-15s, Under-16s, Under-17s.
