Reading manager Jose Gomes praises Nelson Oliveira after massive win

Reading boosted their Championship survival hopes with a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers last night at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals have climbed out of the relegation zone after their huge three points.

The hosts made a slow start to the game against Tony Mowbray’s side but took the lead just before half-time through midfielder John Swift. The former Chelsea man finished well from sex yards out.

Blackburn equalised ten minutes before the end when left-back Amari’i Bell slotted home after a pin-point pass by Joe Rothewell.

However, relegation threatened Reading sealed all three points four minutes before the end when on-loan Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira grabbed a late winner.

The Royals boss, Jose Gomes, was full of praise for his forward’s performance and said, as per their official club website after the game: ““Nélson deserved it. He was really brave, considering the injury that he had (after a clash with Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings in Reading’s last game at the Madejski Stadium).

Everybody saw the condition of his face – and he wanted to play the previous game against Sheffield Wednesday, but the doctors didn’t give him permission. So he just trained twice and then played today. He is really a good player. And he is happy in Reading; he feels that the people here like him.”.

The Portuguese boss also added: “When you feel that a player is full of motivation, who works to train and to play, you feel his energy and you must give him the chance. The way that he played and his attitude through the game – it was amazing.”
