West Brom striker has ‘no future’ at the club – journalist comments on ‘noise’ at the Hawthorns

The Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas has said that West Brom’s loaned out striker Salomon Rondon has no future with the Championship side, according to ‘noise’ at the Hawthorns.

West Brom striker Salomon Rondon could depart the club on a permanent basis during the next summer transfer window, with journalist Mark Douglas reporting that the word from the Hawthorns is that he has no future at the club.

The Venezuelan striker left West Brom on loan during the summer transfer window, joining Newcastle United on loan for the 2018/19 Premier League season, with Dwight Gayle moving the other way.

Now, word from the Hawthorns is that Rondon no longer has a future at the club. Douglas said in the Chronicle’s Newcastle liveblog (17:37) that ‘noise’ from West Brom’s side is that he has no future with the Baggies, and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez will be keen to sign him permanently.

“But there’s also a massive decision on Rondon, who was the cause of so much trouble recruitment-wise last summer. Rafa will want him, West Brom will sell (noises from their side are he’s not got a future at the Hawthorns) but whether the hierarchy will back down isn’t clear. They obviously wanted a second season-long loan deal when they attempted to broker a deal during the window.”

Rondon has been a hit on Tyneside since his move last summer. He has scored seven goals in 21 games, and his aggressive, determined play style has won him a place in the hearts of Newcastle fans, who will also be hoping he joins permanently.

West Brom have also benefitted from their side of the deal, with Gayle performing well throughout this season. He has netted an impressive 16 times in 26 Championship games, helping Darren Moore’s side in their push for promotion.
