Paul Scholes had a perfect start to management as Oldham Athletic beat Yeovil Town 4-1 at Boundary Park.
Paul Scholes’ starting eleven consisted of Iversen, Hamer, Edmundson, Clarke ©, Nepomuceno, Maouche, Missilou, Baxter, Dearnley, Lang, Branger-Engone.
Latics went ahead just before half-time, when Gevaro Nepomuceno cleverly back heeled it through to Johan Branger-Engone down the left.
The winger picked out Jose Baxter in the middle and he slotted home his first goal at Boundary Park since he returned to the club (1-0).

Latics netted six minutes into the second half as Gevaro Nepomuceno crossed for Callum Lang who got in front of Yeovil Town goalkeeper Stuart Nelson to head home (2-0).

Bevis Mugabi pulled a goal back for Yeovil Town following a set piece from Carl Dickinson (2-1).
But, Latics resorted their two goal advantage when Mohammed Maouche picked up a loose ball from a Chris O’Grady flick on and the exciting midfielder picked his spot and restored the two-goal cushion for Latics (3-1).
Christopher Missilou then sealed the three points when he volleyed home his first goal for the club as Paul Scholes wins his first game as manager (4-1).

Paul Scholes told BBC Sport: “It was nice, but it’s just a start. That’s all it is. I know there are tougher tests ahead, starting with Saturday against Crewe, who are going really well.”
“4-1 doesn’t reflect how difficult the night was. Yeovil made it difficult for us.”
“I’m really pleased with the goals. I said in my press conference on Monday that I knew there was talent in this squad.”
“I want them to enjoy and express themselves and the way you do that is by scoring goals.”

Here is how Oldham Athletic fans reacted to first win under Paul Scholes –
Good win tonight. Positive, attacking football and some great goals. Branger, Nepo and Missilou all excellent. The less said about the referee the better. #oafc

Yeah there’s things to improve on but many people expected it to be typical Latics tonight and us lose 1-0, winning 4-1 is brilllant and the goals were fantastic, 6 points off the play offs, it’s very very possible if we get a really good run going #OAFC

Just home and all I can say is wow. Missilou should be mom for me, immense performance. Branger-Engone excellent and great partnership with nepo on the left wing. Hope Hamer is ok #oafc

Not getting too carried away but you can see Paul Scholes’ influence on that team already. Ball on the floor trying to play football. Very rare if at all did we lump it pointlessly long. Baxter was class, Missilou best player in the league, no-one telling me any different #oafc

Dangerous as hell going forward, but prob to the detriment of our defence which looks fragile. Missilou immense…how was Baxter MOM? 4 cracking goals. Well done Scholesy! #oafc
