Derby County bring Manchester United youngster in on trial

The Derby Telegraph has revealed that Championship outfit Derby County have taken young midfielder DJ Buffonge on trial from Premier League giants Manchester United.

Manchester United youngster DJ Buffonge has joined Championship side Derby County on loan, the Derby Telegraph has revealed.

Young midfielder DJ Buffonge featured in an Under-23s game for Derby County during the week, coming on as a second-half substitute for Darren Wassall’s side. He played 30 minutes in their 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Monday night, as the Rams progressed to the knockout stage of the Premier League 2 Cup.

The 20-year-old midfielder is yet to make a senior appearance in his career, but he has featured heavily in the youth sides at Manchester United.

Buffonge started his career in the academy with Arsenal before moving onto Fulham. He spent five years with the Cottagers and went on to join the Manchester United academy in 2015. Since then, he has featured 21 times for the Under-18s, scoring seven and assisting six goals.

His strong performances for the Under-18s saw him move up into the Under-23s side, where he has played 30 times and scored four, providing two assists as well. He has been training with the first-team at stages in the current campaign, too.

Under both Joe Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solksjaer he has trained with the senior team, but he is yet to make it into a senior matchday squad.

If Buffonge was to join Derby, the midfielder would benefit massively from the coaching of Frank Lampard, who starred in the midfield of both Chelsea and England during his illustrious playing career.
