Bolton Wanderers make move for former Derby County defender

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Championship side Bolton Wanderers are in talks over the signing of free agent defender Raul Albentosa.

Bolton Wanderers have made a move for former Derby County defender Raul Albentosa, who is currently without a club. Reliable journalist Alan Nixon tweeted the news on Tuesday morning (see below):

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson was keen to bring in players in the January transfer window to bolster his squad as he looks to lift Wanderers out of the relegation zone. However, he could only bring in Callum Connolly and goalkeeper Remi Matthews as they continue to struggle with financial problems.

Now, it seems that Parkinson has opted to delve into the free agent market to bring in some new faces. Albentosa will reportedly fly in on Monday for talks with Bolton ahead of a potential move to the Championship’s second from bottom side.

Spanish defender Albentosa is without a club after he departed Spanish Segunda Division side Deportivo La Coruna last month. He left Deportivo La Coruna after joining the one-time La Liga champions in 2016 from Derby County, where he had only spent one year.

The second half of his one year spell with Derby was on loan with Spanish side Malaga, after he failed to settle in at Pride Park, making only nine appearances for the Rams in the first half of the 2015/16 Championship season. With Bolton swooping, he could be set for an unlikely return to English football.

Parkinson will be hoping that if he signs, Albentosa can come in to help plug Bolton’s leaky defence.
