Premier League club make move for Bolton Wanderers prodigy

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion have lodged an offer for Bolton Wanderers starlet Luca Connell.

Young Luca Connell has impressed during his breakthrough campaign with Bolton Wanderers, catching the eye of Premier League sides in recent weeks. Now, Brighton and Hove Albion have reportedly made an offer for the youngster.

Nixon tweeted the news on Sunday morning (see below):

Even with the transfer window now closed until the summer, Connell can still make the move away from Bolton. The 17-year-old is yet to sign a professional contract with the Championship side, leaving him free to leave outside the transfer window. However, he will not be able to play any senior football for Albion this season if he departs.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has made his way into Phil Parkinson’s first team plans recently, making his Championship debut on January 29th. He made his debut in a late substitute appearance as Bolton beat Walsall 5-2 in the FA Cup Third Round.

Connell started in Wanderers’ Fourth Round clash vs Bristol City, providing an assist for Mark Beevers’ goal in a 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate. He played 72 minutes of Bolton’s 1-1 draw against Reading, receiving praise for a mature performance. He also started in Wanderers 2-0 defeat to promotion-chasing Sheffield United at Bramall Lane last Saturday.

He started once again in yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Preston North End but had to be subbed off after just 23 minutes after picking up an injury – one which Connell, Phil Parkinson and Bolton fans will be hoping is not serious.
