There seems to be a trend at the moment for football fans to say “I’ll get X tattooed on my a*** if Y happens.” These oft-empty promises are scattered around with almost gay abandon.

Here’s an example of one such tweet (censored – below) that was posted by an exasperated Leeds United fan as Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough drifted towards what looked like an inevitable defeat.

The Whites had been trailing 1-0 thanks to an early second-half goal from Lewis Wing, a gift thanks to wasteful defence from the Leeds. Failure to track back was the issue, 1-0 was the result.

That scoreline was what was evident as the game entered time added-on at the end of the regulation 90 minutes. It was time added-on that was exacerbated by an illness to youngster Jack Clarke on the Leeds bench.

Then this happened.

Suddenly, the above tweet from the exasperated Leeds United fan becomes extremely relevant. Idle threat it may have been, now it becomes poignant promise. It certainly does to Tyler Roberts, Leeds’ young striker – here’s what he thought.

Such is the public forum that Twitter is, there was no way that the original poster is getting away with this – hence Roberts’ retweeted and commented reply. It is also something that has gotten Leeds fans responding on Twitter. Here’s what some of those fans have said in response to the ‘Magnum retweet’.

First up is the original poster himself.

Now it’s the turn of Leeds fans.

Twitter is looking forward to seeing the tattoo live and, er, in the flesh.
