Martin O’Neill delighted with “terrific” Nottingham Forest display against Brentford

Martin O’Neill expressed his delight after Nottingham Forest’s 2-1 win over Brentford at the City Ground yesterday.

The result has moved the Reds up to 9th in the league and five points off the Play-Offs, whereas the Bees has slipped to 18th. It was O’Neill’s second win as manager.

Forest took the leads on 16 minutes after impressing in the opening stages of the game. Lewis Grabban got the goal, his 15th of the season.

Brentford put pressure on the Reds before the hosts had a chance to double their lead from the spot. However, Grabban was denied a brace by a decent save by Dan Bentley.

Forest were able to double their lead with ten minutes left through a header by debutant defender Molla Wague. The Bees made it a nervy finish when Sergi Canos slotted the ball on 89 minutes, but O’Neill’s men held on.

O’Neill was pleased the three points, as per Forest’s official club website: “I’m delighted to have won the game. It was a very difficult match against a very fine footballing side in Brentford”.

“The onus was on us to get forward from the first minute and I think we did that”.

O’Neill gave debuts to new signing Wague and academy graduate Ryan Yates and had this to say on their performances: “There were some terrific performances out there today, especially young Ryan Yates who I thought was fantastic”.

I’m delighted for Ryan. He has been exceptional in training, his enthusiasm is immense and he desperately wants to play for this football club. He’s taken his chance today and he’s done very well so I’m hugely pleased for him”.
