Blackburn Rovers complete clean sweep of monthly Championship awards

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray and attacker Adam Armstrong have completed a clean sweep of the January Championship awards, it has been announced.

On Friday morning, it was announced on Blackburn Rovers’ club website that manager Tony Mowbray had been awarded the Championship manager of the month award for January, with attacker Adam Armstrong collecting the player of the month award in what was a strong January for Rovers.

Mowbray fought off competition from Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Bristol City’s Lee Johnson and Graham Potter of Swansea City to win the award.

Adam Armstrong also battled with strong competition for the award. Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham, Swansea City’s Oli McBurnie and Hull City winger Kamil Grosicki were all up for the award, but it was Armstrong who came out on top.

Tony Mowbray guided Blackburn Rovers to all 12 points from a possible 12 throughout January, pulling off some impressive victories. Rovers opened the New Year with a 2-1 home win over promotion hopefuls West Brom and followed that up with a 2-0 win over Millwall at The Den. They defeated strugglers Ipswich Town 2-0 before defeating an in-form Hull City side 3-0 at Ewood Park.

Attacker Adam Armstrong flourished in Rovers’ strong form. In Blackburn’s four-game winning streak, the 21-year-old scored twice and provided an impressive four assists.

Their strong form has seen them rise up the Championship table and they are now well within the chasing pack once again. Despite sitting in 11th place, they are just four points behind Bristol City, who sit in the final Championship play-off position.
