Bristol City boss Lee Johnson confirmed his side’s interest in Everton midfielder Joe Williams.

The Robins were linked with a move for the 22-year-old last month and Johnson has said that their interest was genuine, as per a report by Bristol Live.

Williams is currently on loan at fellow Championship side Bolton Wanderers and is a target who Bristol City could go for in the summer.

Johnson said this in his press conference yesterday ahead of the Robins’ game against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend, as per Bristol Live: “Well obviously Joe Williams is a good young player that plays for Everton. If he was available at that point then we would have had an interest”.

But he was at Bolton anyway and at that point he got an injury. In fact, I think he’s still injured now if I’m right but I’m not sure”

He added: “But yeah I like Joe Williams. He’s a good player. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that he would have come in and jumped ahead of anybody that we’ve got. And also he’s not our player. I like a lot of players but I can’t have them all”.

Bristol City are flying under Johnson at the moment and have won their past seven matches in the Championship. They rose into the Play-Offs last weekend after their win over Swansea City at Ashton Gate. Can they carry on their winning streak on Saturday?
