Norwich City full-back Caleb Richards has joined Tampa Bay Rowdies on loan.

The 20-year-old will be with the USL Championship side until the end of their season. He has also signed a new deal with Norwich until 2021, as confirmed by their official club website today.

Tampa Bay and the Canaries announced a transatlantic partnership between them and Richards has become the first player to make the move there.

He joined Norwich in the summer from Blackpool and has recently returned from a loan spell at National League North side FC United.

During his time at Blackpool, Richards had loan spells at non-league sides such as Marine, Warrington, Southport and Leek Town before moving to Carrow Road.

He is now looking forward to his switch to America with Tampa Bay. The Rowdies are managed by former Wolves and Sheffield United defender Neill Collins and is the former home of ex-England international Joe Cole.

Upon joining the Florida-based side, Richards told the Norwich club website: “I can’t wait to get started with the Rowdies. It will be another step up and hopefully I progress further. The weather and the surroundings are unreal, and the club is set up very professionally with good facilities.”

“I can’t wait to start the season and hopefully be part of a successful season. The team has been very welcoming and they all live close, so they have been giving me lifts places and helping me to settle in”.
