Millwall boss reveals frustrations of transfer window and gives update on Striker’s fitness

Neil Harris admitted Millwall came close to making a deadline day signing but said the lack of action at Millwall on deadline day was not a bad thing.

Millwall made two signings in January. A transfer window that the Millwall manager labelled a “shambles” and says it “needs to be changed.”

Rudy Gestede was expected to join the Lions on loan until the end of the season but turned the move down. Harris said that Millwall were close to adding to their squad on Deadline Day and thought more than one deal had been completed. The Lions were also linked with long term target Matt Smith.

“Yeah we was very close. We were at a stage where I thought one was done. In fact I thought more than one was done he said after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Rotherham.

The Millwall boss wanted to add an attacker to his squad following injures to Tom Bradshaw and Tom Elliott. However, he was left frustrated and baffled by the choices of some of his targets. “What I don’t understand is there’s been a lot of players that decide to stay at clubs where they are clearly not going to play. I wanted to play, I wanted to compete.

Harris also criticised the transfer window and admitted it is a difficult window to do business in. “It was difficult you saw the lack of action [of clubs in the transfer window] it was not a bad thing for me. It’s not a bad thing there was a lack of action on Deadline Day, because it might stop the build up to it, the flurry of transfers and things like that. It was least money spent for a long time and I’m pleased. The window is a shambles and needs to be changed. I’ve said that before.

I think we saw a lot of clubs try and do business but couldn’t. We were just one of a probably a dozen or so who tried on Deadline Day in the Championship and couldn’t.”

Tom Elliott has missed the last three games with injury. Harris gave an update n his fitness. “The thing with Tom It’s all about strength. He’s out of the training pitch everyday running, physically he can do everything. It’s just that shoulder, the danger of it popping out in physical contact. Asked on a date of the strikers return, Harris replied “not sure.”
