Bolton Wanderers starlet on the radar of Premier League side

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Premier League side Burnley are still keen on a move for young talent Luca Connell, currently playing for Championship strugglers Bolton Wanderers.

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon posted on Twitter (see below) that Burnley ‘still have active interest’ in Bolton Wanderers prodigy Luca Connell, who could yet move away from the club despite the closure of the January transfer window.

Burnley were among a host of fellow Premier League sides eyeing up a possible move for Connell in the transfer window. The Daily Mail reported that Spurs, Southampton and Brighton were all keen to bring the 17-year-old in before the closure of the window. However, the youngster remained with Bolton despite top tier interest.

Burnley could move to bring the youngster in before the reopening of the transfer window in July. Connell is yet to be signed up to a professional contract with the club and is still a scholar with Wanderers despite making three senior appearances so far this season.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has made his way into Phil Parkinson’s first team plans recently, making his Championship debut on January 29th. He played 72 minutes of Bolton’s 1-1 draw against Reading, receiving praise for a performance beyond his years. He also started in Wanderers 2-0 defeat to promotion-chasing Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

He made his debut in a late substitute appearance as Bolton beat Walsall 5-2 in the FA Cup Third Round. Connell started in Wanderers’ Fourth Round clash vs Bristol City, providing an assist for Mark Beevers’ goal in a 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate.
