West Brom closing in on move for Swansea City winger

West Brom are closing in on a move for Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The Baggies have been in the hunt for a replacement for Harvey Barnes, who was recalled by Leicester City at the start of the month.

They have looked to have found their man in Montero and are also being linked with a deadline day move for Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy as well.

Montero, who is a Ecuador international with 64 caps to his name, will give the Baggies more pace and power out wide.

The 29-year-old has played 11 times for the Swans this season in the Championship but has been heavily linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium throughout this January transfer window.

He joined the Welsh side in July 2014 from Mexican side Morelia and has played just under 100 times for the Swans altogether since then as well as having loan spells away at Getafe and Emelec.

Prior to moving to Swansea, Montero had enjoyed spells at Emelec (first stint there), Independiente del Valle, Dorados, Villarreal, Levante, Real Betis and Morelia in a well travelled career.

His aim now will be to gain promotion to the Premier League with West Brom, should the deal get completed today. Montero will be an exciting coup for the Baggies’ fans and he can be a joy to watch when he is on form.
