Aston Villa set to beat host of Championship sides to Bournemouth defender

According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings is set to sign for Championship side Aston Villa, with a deal potentially being ‘wrapped up’ today.

Aston Villa will beat a host of Championship sides to the loan signing of Bournemouth left-back Tyrone Mings, the Daily Mail said on their transfer live blog (10:23).

Fellow Championship outfits Derby County, Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest have also been linked with the left-back. However, it seems that Aston Villa have been the first to make an approach for the defender with a move reportedly set to be completed after reports emerged last week of an offer from Villa.

Bournemouth are willing to let Mings leave on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season after falling down the pecking order at Dean Court. His Premier League minutes have come few and far between this season, making just one start and four substitute appearances this season. Two of his three starts have come in the EFL Cup against Milton Keynes Dons and Blackburn.

When utilised, Cherries boss Eddie Howe has been playing Mings at centre-back for the majority of his minutes on the pitch this season. However, he has been pushed down the pecking order even further after Bournemouth completed the signing of Brentford centre-back Chris Mepham for a fee of £12m.

Since joining Bournemouth from Ipswich Town in 2015, Mings has played only 23 times for The Cherries after he picked up a serious knee injury shortly after his debut, keeping him out of action for over a year.
