Nottingham Forest defender set to complete Latics move on Tuesday

Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox is expected to complete his move to Sky Bet Championship rivals Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Winsford-born defender has been on The Latics’ radar for several days and a deal is thought to be close to completion.

According to reports by Sky Sports, Fox will undergo a medical at the Lancashire club on Tuesday with a permanent transfer set to be concluded subject to the player passing his assessments. The defender could make his Wigan Athletic debut on Saturday as The Latics take on QPR at the DW Stadium in the Sky Bet Championship.

Fox started his career at Everton but failed to make a first team appearance for The Toffees. The player dropped into the English Football League to launch his career where he joined Walsall and Fox went on to represent The Saddlers on 118 occasions in which he scored six goals. Moves to Coventry City and Celtic followed before Fox enjoyed his first taste of English Premier League football with Burnley.

The defender spent a little over 18 months at Turf Moor before he joined Southampton who he helped to promotion back to the top flight in 2011/2012.

In January 2014, Fox joined current club Nottingham Forest on an initial loan deal which was later made permanent. The defender has gone on to make 127 appearances for The Reds but now looks almost certain to end his days at The City Ground completing a move to Wigan Athletic.
