Leeds United Spygate letter particulars reveal new insights – latent motives perhaps

Leeds United might well bobbing along on the crest of a wave at the moment in the Sky Bet Championship, but the seas are decidedly choppy.

The losses are beginning to pile up a little, three in their last four for the Whites after a 2-1 reverse against Stoke City last time out.

A game at the weekend against Rotherham will be surely one where United will be looking to bounce back in some style. Whilst they will want to shake off any doubts to their undoubted skill, Leeds United can’t seem to shake off the yoke of the Spygate saga.

That sorry saga seems to be dragging on more. Yesterday it was the naming of some of the other clubs involved in the letter that had been penned to the EFL.

Today’s revelations, well they centred around the actual contents of said letter. There are eight points that the ‘Championship 11’ want addressing as they ask the ELF to delve deeper in the Spygate affair.

They demand “dates and occasions” of the spying, they demand Leeds “identify the individual or individuals” carrying out the spying, and even demand “the methods and amounts” paid to the spies.

They want to know how Leeds United spies operated, they want to know whether there are insiders from their clubs involved, they want to know whether payments have been to what they call ‘inside sources’.

They ask for “full particularity” if any payments have been made or inside moles used an also want “full disclosure” all documentation “created in the course of the process of observation.”

They aren’t asking for much, are they? But there are some who seem to think that there’s an ulterior motive possibly behind the letter.

Leeds-based sport lawyer Richard Cramer seems to think that the strategy underpinning the particulars of the letter is somewhat pointed. He seems to think that the 11 signatories are trying to circumvent Marcelo Bielsa’s insistence that he was acting as a lone wolf.

Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds’ West Yorkshire Sport programme Cramer said that the signatories were: “trying to bring Leeds right into the mix on this one.”

This isn’t one that’s going to go away anytime soon.
