Aston Villa ‘make approach’ for highly sought after Bournemouth defender

According to Football Insider‘s Pete O’Rourke, Aston Villa have made an approach to try and sign defender Tyrone Mings from Premier League outfit Bournemouth.

Aston Villa have made an approach for Bournemouth’s out of favour defender Tyrone Mings, Football Insider are reporting.

Aston Villa are one of a host of Championship sides to be reportedly eyeing up a move for Mings this January transfer window and have made a move as manager Dean Smith tries to plug Villa’s leaky defence. Fellow Championship outfits West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest have also expressed an interest in the left-back, with Derby County also keeping an eye on Mings.

Bournemouth are willing to let Mings leave on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season after falling down the pecking order at Dean Court. His Premier League minutes have come few and far between this season, making just one start and four substitute appearances this season. Two of his three starts have come in the EFL Cup against Milton Keynes Dons and Blackburn.

When utilised, Cherries boss Eddie Howe has been playing Mings at centre-back for the majority of his minutes on the pitch this season. However, he has been pushed down the pecking order even further after Bournemouth completed the signing of Brentford centre-back Chris Mepham for a fee of £12m.

Since joining Bournemouth from Ipswich Town in 2015, Mings has played only 23 times for The Cherries after he picked up a serious knee injury shortly after his debut, keeping him out of action for over a year.
