Reports – Millwall interested in QPR striker

Millwall are interested in QPR striker Matt Smith. He has been a long term target for the club.

QPR signed the striker from Fulham two years ago. Under Ian Holloway he was a regular but has been a bit part player under Steve McClaren.

He scored 11 goals for the club last season.

According to West London Sport Millwall are interested in bringing him in after Tom Elliott picked up an injury which will keep him out for around six weeks.

Smith would be keen on the move as it is still in London. He would also get first team football. Millwall play with a target man and Smith would be a perfect replacement with Steve Morison ageing and more effective and an impact sub.

The two clubs first made contact after Millwall found out the extent of Elliott’s injury and the time he will miss.

There is one problem and that is the players wages. It is believed that QPR will have to pay a percentage of his weekly wage.

Smith himself has recently spoke of his frustration at not being on the pitch on a regular basis.

When speaking about his playing time he had this to say “It’s been a very frustrating spell personally. I try to just give my all to the side when I get given the opportunity.”

Smith has fallen out of favour following the arrivals of Nahki Wells and Tomer Hemed. Smith does not fit into the McClaren style of play. A passing style. He would suit Millwall’s style of a target man.
