West Brom boss discusses potential signing of former Baggies attacker

West Brom manager Darren Moore has not ruled out the possibility of signing former Baggies striker Giles Barnes, who is currently training with the club.

Former West Brom attacker Giles Barnes has been training with The Baggies recently as he looks to regain some fitness. The 30-year-old went on West Brom’s training trip to Dubai last week and impressed on the training pitch, causing speculation that he could be in line for a return to The Hawthorns.

However, BirminghamLive state that a deal which would see Barnes return on a permanent basis is unlikely, despite manager Darren Moore not ruling it out.

“We’re looking to strengthen the team in all areas if possible,” Moore told BirminghamLive.

“It won’t be just in one isolated area it’s all over. And if a player does become available then we’ll try to bring them in.

“Giles been training with us. Me and Giles go right the way back to Derby when he made his debut.

“Obviously he’s been in America but has been training at the club for the last week or so. He’s just getting his fitness levels up and it just gives us an opportunity to have a look.”

Barnes came through the academy at Derby County, where he went on to play for four years. He played for The Rams on 94 occasions, scoring 13 goals during his time at Pride Park. In his time at Derby, he played alongside current Baggies boss Moore.

He then went on to spend a season with West Brom before moving to Doncaster Rovers on a free transfer.

After leaving England, Barnes has gone on to play for a host of American sides. The 30-year-old played for Houston Dynamo for four years, playing 130 times and scoring 33 goals. Since then, he has had short stints with Vancouver Whitecaps, Orlando City, Colorado Rapids and Mexican side Club Leon.
