Middlesbrough weighing up bid for Birmingham striker

Birmingham City striker Isaac Vassell is attracting attention from Championship rivals Middlesbrough, according to Teesside Live.

Vassell has been injured since October 2017 and made his return to the first team against Middlesbrough last weekend, and instantly drew attention from the Boro boss Tony Pulis.

A knee ligament injury sustained nearly a year and a half ago only kept him out of action for a matter of months, before he picked up a hip injury during his recovery, meaning his return to football was delayed even further.

Middlesbrough are actively looking for players to bolster their attack, with Rudy Gestede and Ashley Fletcher both linked with a move away, and Martin Braithwaite having already departed on loan to La Liga outfit Leganes.

Vassell could be a good asset for the Teessiders, and may contribute something different to what they already have at their disposal, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill occupying the central striker role at the moment.

Birmingham boss Garry Monk recently spoke out about Vassell’s return. “It’s fantastic having Isaac back” he said. “We’re excited by it but mindful of not to expect too much too soon from him. We need to build him up in the right way.

“I’m not putting pressure on him it’s not like he’s got to come in and play 90 minutes of football.

“But it’s fantastic to have him back and I’m really excited to work with him. I was excited when I came in, but unfortunately, he was injured at the time, but I’d watched a lot of his football from before that.”
