The wheels haven’t exactly come off the Leeds United charabanc just yet, but gremlins have definitely been loosening a few of the nuts.
Today’s 2-1 loss to Stoke was United’s third in four games; however, good form sees the Whites still at the top of the Championship pile.
In the aftermath of the Spygate allegations, this was the Whites first game since Marcelo Bielsa admitted spying on all and sundry. It was a game where an organised Potters side stood toe-to-toe with Leeds, coming out the better.
Leeds United were second best most of the game in all fairness, yet were threatening in parts. There wasn’t that fluency that tore Derby apart. It was simply a case of second-best finishing second.
This was compounded by a second yellow after tangling with Benik Afobe, whose subsequent stumble was enough to allow Bailey Peacock-Farrell to recover the ball. The referee showed no hesitation, pulling out the yellow card as Stoke had gained no advantage.
With Jansson’s dismissal, there was always going to be some form of comment from Leeds United fans. That has proven to be the case and this is what some of them had to say on Twitter about the incident.

How many games do we see it? It’s every game it seems. Refs wave on legitimate penalty claims game after game. The refs probably under instruction by the @EFL

Yellow card for falling over. I’ve definitely missed that page in the referee handbook pic.twitter.com/EQ6PrlOiiL

There was plenty of vitriol and accusation over this incident, but there were also Leeds fans who thought the other way.
Always going to happen
