Aston Villa are considering a swoop for Leicester City forward Islam Slimani, according to Birmingham Live.
Villa boss Dean Smith is known to be scouring the market for new additions and has reportedly identified Slimani as a target.
Despite being under contract at the King Power Stadium, Slimani is currently on loan at Turkish giants Fenerbahce and the loan would have to be cut short if a move to Villa was to materialise.
The Algerian marksman has struggled to find form in front of goal this season, finding the back of the net on just three occasions in the Turkish Super Lig. The 30-year-old also struggled during a loan spell with Newcastle United last season but did convince Leicester to pay a staggering £29m to secure his services in 2016.
With the Foxes flop unlikely to feature in Leicester boss Claude Puel’s plans next season, the club may look to offload Slimani on a permanent basis and a move to the Midlands would give the frontman a chance to rejuvenate his career in the second tier.
He is one of several transfer targets identified by Smith, joining Chelsea prodigy Charlie Colkett and Barry Town United defender Macauley Southam-Hales on a list of players that have been linked with a switch to Villa Park.
In the meantime, Villa have a clash with league rivals Hull City to look forward to tomorrow.
