New Nottingham Forest boss Keane for reunion with former assistant

New Nottingham Forest boss Martin O’Neill has issued an open invitation for former Republic of Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane to join him at The City Ground according to Nottinghamshire Live.

The 66-year-old was unveiled as former Reds boss Aitor Karanka’s replacement on Tuesday but is yet to appoint his assistant.

According to the latest reports, O’Neill has admitted that ‘there is a spot open’ for former Republic of Ireland colleague Keane to join him at The City Ground as an assistant and the Northern Irishman has claimed that he would ‘dearly like’ to be reunited with him.

With Keane by his side, O’Neill won 19 of his 55 matches in charge of the Republic of Ireland. The pair spent over five years at the Aviva Stadium in which they successfully guided the nation to the UEFA European Championships in 2016. The Republic of Ireland qualified for the knockout stages from their group before exiting the competition at the last-16 stage.

O’Neill and Keane left their positions with Republic of Ireland in November last year following a disastrous run in the UEFA Nations League.

Both O’Neill and Keane have won promotions as managers in English football’s second tier and the duo could be a force to be reckoned with if they are reunited at Nottingham Forest.
