Yesterday it was reported that Leeds United are keeping tabs on Bristol City winger Callum O’Dowda as Marcelo Bielsa looks to bring in a new winger.

Callum O’Dowda seems to be the backup option for Swansea City winger Daniel James, who Marcelo Bielsa is clearly a fan of. The Whites are willing to meet the asking price for the Welshman but no reports of an official bid have emerged.

Bielsa is making sure that he doesn’t put all of his eggs in one basket and keeping his options open as Leeds United look to bring in a new winger. O’Dowda is one of the names Bielsa has on his list, but he could have to chalk him off after Bristol City announced that he has extended his stay at Ashton Gate.

The Robin have triggered an extension to the winger’s contract, which extends his deal until the end of the 2019/2020 season.

Robins boss Lee Johnson has said that it is important that they have tied down O’Dowda to a new deal. Matty Taylor and Bailey Wright have also extended their stays with the club.

“To have three important players extend their stays here is brilliant news for the club.

“They are quality players and fantastic individuals who bring a lot to the pitch and dressing room. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the campaign brings and I know Bailey, Callum and Matty will play a big part in that.”

If Bielsa opts to make a move for O’Dowda, with him tied down to a longer deal they could have to pay more than originally expected to secure his services. It could also mean that they end their interest in the Irishman, with a cheaper deal looking unlikely now that his deal is no longer ending at the end of the current campaign.
