Leeds United’s summer trainee set to become Aston Villa’s third January signing

Former Levski Sofia goalkeeper Dimitar Sheytanov seems to have all but confirmed that he is now at Aston Villa. The Bulgarian has posted a photo on his Instagram with him at the club’s training ground alongside assistant manager John Terry.

Aston Villa look set to complete the signing of goalkeeper Dimitar Sheytanov on a free transfer. It was reported earlier this month by the Birmingham Mail that Sheytanov was on the club’s radar and now it seems Villa have got their man.

The Bulgarian posted the picture (shown below) on Wednesday, with him next to Villa’s Assistant Manager and Chelsea legend John Terry.

The 19-year-old is a regular for Bulgaria’s Under-19s but has been out of football since his deal with Bulgarian club Levski Sofia at the end of last season.

Throughout the summer window, it seemed that Sheytanov was set for a move to Villa’s Championship rivals Leeds United. The ‘keeper played for the Whites in a friendly against non-league side Osset Albion, posting pictures of his performance on his Twitter page which seemingly confirmed the move after an extended trial.

Sportal say that whilst Sheytanov “performed very well” at Leeds United, the club “refused to pay Levski for his rights.

This refusal to compensate the Bulgarians, coupled with him becoming a free agent, means that Villa can nip in and take advantage of the situation. This is what Sportal say has happened, saying that he can cross to the Birmingham-based side “without a transfer amount.

Sheytanov will join Villa and find himself way down the pecking order, although it will obviously be a chance for his to further his development. the 19-year-old will join Villa who already have Jed Steer, Lovre Kalinic, Mark Bunn, Matija Sarkic and Orjan Nyland on the books.
