Leeds United transfer interest – new winger name mentioned

Ask any Leeds United fan and they’ll gladly tell you, they are aching for their club to do some business in the January transfer window. It’s a window that is beginning to bubble though.

That bubbling is being caused by the impending arrival of highly rated Spanish keeper Kiko Casilla. Casilla is set to join the Whites from Spanish, and world, football giants Real Madrid with United buying out the remainder of his 18 month contract.

Whilst it is a start, it won’t be enough to please Leeds United fans who will be looking for more names. As injuries bite, and bite deeper, Leeds supporters eyes turn to the January market more than ever.

There have been rumblings of interest in some outfield players, most recently the names of Swansea duo Jefferson Montero and Daniel James have popped up. However, news filtering through late yesterday put another Championship player in United’s eyeline – Callum O’Dowda.

Sky Sports North of England reporter Tim Thornton points out that the Whites are looking at O’Dowda as “an option” in their hunt for a new wideman.

O’Dowda would fit that bill, the 15-cap Republic of Ireland winger would also come with Football League experience, including 106 games for Oxford United – where he played alongside Kemar Roofe.

He moved to current side Bristol City for £1m in mid-July 2016, and his in the last six months of that deal. He’s featured in 91 games (80 in the Sky Bet Championship) for the Robins, scoring four goals and providing 13 assists across all competitions.

This season, the Oxford-born 23-year-old has featured in 22 Championship games, scoring twice and adding four assists.
