Leeds United Casilla capture edges closer – pictured heading for UK

After Leeds United had handed Derby County a comprehensive 2-0 defeat, their fans were exuberant. They became even more so when reporter Phil Hay tweeted a story of major transfer interest.

That interest involved them looking to tie up a deal for Real Madrid stopper Kiko Casilla. Casilla has pedigree at Real Madrid, spending last season as #2 to Keylar Navas, yet featuring in a raft of LA Liga and Champions League games.

It was, as said, news well received that the much regarded keeper was swapping the Santiago Bernabeu for Elland Road, leaving Los Blancos for the Whites. Fingers drummed, breath was held and fans waited.

That wait, that was edging closer, is over now.

The above snap purports to show Casilla readying himself to fly out of Spain and in to England and his upcoming move to Leeds.

There is no actual transfer fee that Leeds United will be paying, the Whites buying out the remainder of his deal with Los Blancos. BBC journalist Adam Pope says that this is reported to be in the region of €1.7m/£1.5m.

Bringing in Casilla is likely to spell the end of this season’s involvement for youngster Peacock-Farrell, the 32-year-old Spaniard hardly likely coming in as a back-up.

Whatever view you take of this impending deal, it goes to show the cachet that Leeds United have at the moment. Landing Casilla is nothing short of a transfer coup by Victor Orta and Leeds United.
