Leeds United are closing in on the deal to bring Real Madrid goalkeeper to Elland Road. The 32-year-old Spanish keeper is set for his medical this afternoon as Leeds look to finalise a deal that seems quite surreal given the circumstances. Casilla was on the bench for Madrid on Sunday before heading to Leeds yesterday to complete his move.
Casilla arrived in England last night ahead of today’s medical and barring any unseen issues he’ll put pen to paper on a permanent deal at Leeds United. Victor Orta has done a lot more than just pull a few strings to get this deal done, he’s on the brink of completing one of the biggest transfers in Leeds United’s recent history. Casilla is a product of the Real Madrid youth system and has been the second choice for the majority of his career at Madrid, winning leagues, Champions Leagues and Club World Cups as he went. He has dropped to third choice with the arrival of Thiabut Courtois, allowing Leeds to persuade him to make the switch.

The club will buy Casilla out of his current deal at Real Madrid, meaning no transfer fee will be paid to the Spanish giants. Casilla will receive the rest of his contract from Leeds United, believed to be in the region of 1.3 million euros. How long he will sign for remains to be seen but perhaps and 18-month deal with an option of extension will be the most likely. The deal is huge for Leeds United as a club, attracting a player of Casilla’s calibre is hugely significant and a massive boost for the fans and club.
Baily Peacock-Farrell is the only senior keeper at Leeds United, and under 23 player himself last season. Jamal Blackman arrived on loan from Chelsea as Marcelo Bielsa’s second signing in the summer but broke his leg playing for the 23’s as Marcelo Bielsa was about to put him in the first-team. Since he returned to Chelsea the form of Peacock-Farrell dipped dramatically. He now has the competition from a very experienced professional.
