Martin O’Neill has finally made his return to Nottingham Forest, but this time as manager. Here are five players he could target for the Reds-
Kevin Long, Burnley- O’Neill knows him well from managing him with the Republic of Ireland. Long, who has been on the books at Burnley since 2010, has not been a first-team regular this season and would bolster Forest’s defence.
Scott Hogan, Aston Villa- Another player O’Neill knows through international duties, the 26-year-old striker has struggled at Villa since moving there from Brentford. He can be a goal scorer at this level and needs confidence. Could the Reds move for him this month to boost their attacking options?
David Meyler, Reading- There are reports that he has been transfer listed by the Royals. The experienced midfielder has played under the new Forest boss at Ireland and Sunderland. Meyler knows the Championship well and has been promoted from it twice with Hull City in the past.
Connor Wickham, Crystal Palace- O’Neill had him at Sunderland. Wickham, who is now 25 years-old, has struggled with injuries with Palace and could do with a loan move to the second tier to help get his career back on track.
Daniel Johnson, Preston North End- He was a youngster rising through the youth ranks at Aston Villa when O’Neill was in charge at Villa Park. Johnson has been at Preston since 2015 and proven himself at this level. He has genuine quality and would be a great signing for Forest.
