Confirmed – Leeds ARE interested in linked Swansea City winger

Alan Nixon this morning broke the story that Leeds United are keen on both Dan James and Jefferson Montero from Swansea City. Leeds seem to favour a move for James although a deal would cost around £2.5 million rather than a loan for Montero. Tonight Phil Hay has confirmed James is a target for Marcelo Bielsa.

James, 21 is a product of the Swansea City youth system and has broken into the side under Graham Potter this season. With competition in those areas quite tough he’s done well and has certainly been one of the bright sparks in a Swansea team who aren’t performing anywhere near where pundits and fans thought. Struggling for goals and consistency it would be the perfect time for Leeds United to pounce, sat top of the table and playing some very good football.

There is always a question mark over “linked” players and that’s especially true in the January window which is 31 days of hectic news stories and clubs trying to buy and sell to push their season on. Phil Hay has tonight conformed that Leeds have been looking at James and there is interest in the player. Although he hasn’t heard anything about Jefferson Montero the fact that Alan Nixon, who has broken the story has named Montero as well suggests there could well be interest there as well.

Leeds are close to making a huge signing in Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla after agreeing to buy him out of his contract. Victor Orta has managed to pull that off, or nearly anyway and then attention may well be turned onto the winger that Marcelo Bielsa has publically stated he wants. By the looks of things James is a very realistic option. He fits the bill of being young and wouldn’t cost a huge fee, around £2.5 million is said to be the asking price.
