Derby County eyeing up a move for experienced Newcastle United goalkeeper

Derby County eyeing up a move for experienced Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot on loan, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Championship side Derby County are eyeing up a move for experienced Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot on loan.

Alan Nixon tweeted: “DERBY. Looking into loan for keeper Elliot at NEWCASTLE.”

Scott Carson has played every game in the League this season, young goalkeeper Kelle Roos has provided back up on the bench, but Derby County want an experienced back up to Scott Carson.

Rob Elliot has not featured for Newcastle this season as Martin Dubravka is first choice.

Rob Elliot’s career has gone from strength to strength and he was signed by Newcastle United in August 2011.

He stepped in to cover injuries during the 2015/16 season, and he was outstanding, but denied a place at Euro 2016 following a serious knee injury while playing a warm-up match for Ireland in Dublin.

On Friday night, Leeds United beat Derby County to go five points clear at the top of the Championship. Kemar Roofe’s near-post flick from a Jack Clarke cross and Jack Harrison’s tap-in gave Leeds United the win in a feisty game at Elland Road.

Derby County Manager Frank Lampard spoke to BBC Sport about the game and Marcelo Bielsa’s spying: “For me, it’s not right.”

“I’m a big fan from afar of Bielsa, I’ve got his book at home in my front room, but that’s slightly clouded it for me today.”

“I’ve never heard of going to a training ground on your hands and knees with pliers trying to break into private land to watch.”

“But I don’t attribute our performance to it because that’s on us.”
