Leeds United set for huge coup as Real Madrid man set for medical next week

Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is set to undergo a medical at Leeds United early next week ahead of a switch from the Madrid to West Yorkshire and Leeds. The 32-year-old is third choice at Real Madrid and this deal is a huge coup for Leeds United and Victor Orta.

Casilla has been back-up at Real Madrid for years and years, leaving to join Espanyol and make over 100 appearances before returning to be the number two at Madrid for around £5 million. In terms of deals Victor Orta has managed to pull off, this ranks only behind the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa. This is a Premier League signing, or with the vision of being a Premier League team and that’s not just from the Leeds United point of view, that’s from the player coming in surely. Leeds are buying out the remaining year-and-a-half on the players contract at Real Madrid.

Marcelo Bielsa may be coming in for some criticism over the spying incident but it’s very clear he hasn’t broken rules and it happens on a regular basis in various different ways. Sky Sports aren’t getting much news on transfers so it’s given them something to talk about for a few days. This is a man who has helped pull a player from one of the biggest clubs in the world to Leeds United if all goes well at the medical next week. That is a fact, that is Marcelo Bielsa.

Baily Peacock-Farrell may be worried he’s going to lose his place but he should be delighted to welcome a player of this calibre to the club, someone he can learn from and watch. Casilla may not come straight into the side but there is little doubt that he’ll be in the first-team, his experience and quality will be a huge boost to the whole club. This will send a message, like the performance last night, to the rest of the league that not only is the little wobble over but Leeds United are well and truly going for it this season.
