Nottingham Forest have parted company with Aitor Karanka, as announced by the club’s official website this morning. Here are five potential candidates to replace him-
Slavisa Jokanovic- He has emerged as the early frontrunner for the vacant position. The Serb guided Fulham to promotion to the Premier League but was harshly sacked by the London side after a difficult start to life in the top flight. He has also managed Watford in this country.
Leonardo Jardim- The 44-year-old is another name being mentioned. He was sacked in October by Monaco where he was in charge for four years. He guided them to the Ligue 1 title in 2017. Jardim has also previously managed Braga, Olympiakos and Sporting Lisbon.
Martin O’Neill- He is available after leaving the Republic of Ireland in November. O’Neill spent ten years as a player for Nottingham Forest and helped them win two European Cups. He has never managed the Red but could this be the time for him to make a return?
Gary Rowett- The former Burton Albion, Birmingham City and Derby County boss was sacked by Stoke City last week after a poor run of form. Rowett’s reputation is rapidly decreasing after a tough time at the Bet365 Stadium. He is an option for Forest though.
Carlos Carvalhal- The Portuguese boss guided Sheffield Wednesday to the Play-Offs twice during his tenure at Hillsborough so knows what it takes to get into the top six. He wasn’t able to keep Swansea City in the Premier League last season but deserves another shot in the Championship.
