Leeds United Sol shine on a rainy day – rumour

There can be little doubt, and nor should there be, that Leeds United are a side needing a shot-in-the-arm when it comes to the January transfer market.

However, like a man stuck in the depths of deepest constipation, there has been no movement at the West Yorkshire club. Despite a mounting injury list, and amidst dwindling player resources, Whites fans are watching the various news feeds; the club is till sitting on their hands though.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching wizardry being stretched to the very edge of his brilliance, more Under-23 Development players are being used as stop-gaps as his depleted squad continues to dwindle even more. With each new injury comes a fresh call for transfer window action from the fans.

There is some hope that things might be looking up here, especially in the goalkeeping market. Last night Phil Hay said that Whites were looking to bring in a stopper that they had been working on, this not being Southampton’s Fraser Foster.

However, it is another rumoured player interest that is causing the ripples for Leeds United fans at the moment. Resurfacing at the moment are yet further links with Willem II striker Fran Sol. These rumours are that he was being sought by MLS side Real Salt Lake, but backed away from them when he hear of Leeds United interest in him.

It doesn’t take much to whip Leeds United’s online supporter base into something resembling a frenzy, and this ‘news’ proved to be the case. It all started with the following tweet:

It is rumoured interest that has picked up pace somewhat, and Mackenzie is now being quoted in Dutch media outlets such as SoccerNews.

Sol is a striker who has been somewhat prolific this Eredivisie campaign so far. The 26-year-old, Madrid-born striker has hit 17 goals across 20 games in all competitions for the Dutch top-tier side. 13 of that total of 20 goals have come in the Eredivisie itself, including a hat-trick in a 5-0 thumping of Heracles.

Leeds United already have notable names up front in 13-goal top-scorer Kemar Roofe and support from the likes of Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts. However, the chance to bring in a proven goalscorer such as Sol, if the price is right, might prove to be a temptation that is hard to resist for Leeds United.
