According to Gazette Live, Middlesbrough goalkeeper Connor Ripley is set to sign for fellow Championship side Preston North End.

Ripley is currently on loan from Middlesbrough at League One’s Accrington Stanley and is enjoying a successful spell at the club, with Stanley cemented in mid-table after their promotion last season.

His performances have brought interest from the division above with Preston North End looking like the shot stoppers most likely destination this transfer window.

The 25-year old has only featured twice for the Teessiders in the past eight years, and has been subject to several loans away in his relatively short career so far. His loan moves have took him to the likes of Oldham and Bury, to Scotland with Motherwell and even to Sweden with Ostersund back in 2014.

The move to Deepdale is reported to be a permanent switch for an undisclosed fee, and Ripley is to have a medical as early as this week ahead of the move.

Preston were interested in Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart, who may have lost his place in the Clarets side with the return of Tom Heaton from injury recently. But with a move for the Boro ‘keeper on the cards, it is not yet reported whether they will persist with a deal for the former-Manchester City number one.
