Wigan Athletic have bid rejected for Reading defender – Middlesbrough and Stoke City also interested

Wigan Athletic have had a bid worth £450K for Tyler Blackett rejected by Reading according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Latics have some money to spend since they were taken over and have been keen on signing a new defender. Dan Burn is their top defender right now but he has already signed for Brighton and Hove Albion and is only still at the DW Stadium because they loaned him back for a period of time to make sure he gets first-team football.

Wigan would then identify Blackett as a target, believing the former Manchester United man would be great for them due to his versatility. The 24-year-old is just as capable as a left-back as he is a centre-back. They had made several bids before which were rejected now another bid, said to be worth around £450K has been turned down. With Reading facing a battle against relegation, they are keen to keep their top players around.

But they may face a tough battle keeping Blackett as it isn’t just Wigan who are interested in signing him. Middlesbrough, currently in the thick of the battle for promotion, are also said to be interested in signing him while reports have indicated that Stoke City are also in the race. The Potters though may not be interested in Blackett anymore though following the sacking of Gary Rowett as head coach. But if they are still in for him, it could be a tough January for Reading as they hope to keep him.
