Bradford City set to sign Leeds United defender

The Telegraph and Argus have reported that Bradford City are set to complete the loan signing of Leeds United defender Paudie O’Connor during the coming days, with the 21-year-old looking set to swap Elland Road for the short trip to Valley Parade for the rest of the season.

The Irish Defender has spent the majority of this season on loan at Blackpool and most recently featured against Arsenal, last Saturday in the Seasiders FA Cup clash.

O’Connor was signed back in 2017 by then Leeds United boss Garry Monk – but has spent time away on loan from Elland Road in order to help with his development.

The young defender will bring some talent to a Bantams back-line that has sured up in recent weeks, after a torrid first few months this season, which saw Bradford City stuck at the bottom of the division.

After a brilliant December, the West-Yorkshire side have managed to work their way up the table – and have done so in style with several emphatic victories – including two 4-0 wins and a 3-0 win.

O’Connor’s proposed move to Valley Parade will benefit both Leeds United and Bradford City – given the fact that the centre-half will be so close to his current club, so they can keep tabs on his progress quite easily.

With Bradford City manager David Hopkin playing for Leeds United during his career, it remains to be seen as to whether he’s used his contacts at the club in order to agree a deal between the Bantams and their fierce local rivals – but one thing is for sure, O’Connor will certainly be a welcomed addition to a thin Bradford City squad.
