Sunderland keen on deal for Celtic and Scotland midfielder

Sunderland are keen on a loan deal for Celtic winger Lewis Morgan, according to the Daily Star.

The Black Cats are looking to bolster their squad in this January transfer window to boost their chances of promotion.

Their manager, Jack Ross, could turn to Lewis Morgan, who he managed at St Mirren in his previous managerial role.

Morgan, who is 22 years-old, has made nine appearances for Celtic in the Scottish Premier League so far this season and could leave on loan this month to gain some regular first-team football.

He made the move to Scottish Champions Celtic last January from St Mirren but was immediately loaned back to Ross’ former side. Morgan helped the Buddies gain promotion from the Scottish Championship last season by scoring a total of 18 goals from the wing.

Morgan gained his first cap for Scotland in May in their 2-0 defeat to Peru. He had previously represented his country at Under-21 level.

He linked up with Celtic over the summer and has been part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad since then. However, he could now reunite with Ross at Sunderland to get some more experience under his belt.

The winger, who is known for his pace and power, would offer Sunderland another option out wide. The North-East side are currently 3rd in League One and just a single point behind Luton Town in 2nd.
