Yeovil look set to secure the signing of former Nottingham Forest midfielder Simon Gillett after Gary Johnson revealed that the 28 year old would join the squad at their training camp in Cornwall. Having featured in pre – season friendlies against Bristol Rovers and Reading, Gillett was then absent from the subsequent two games against Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle. Following a 2 – 1 win at Home Park last night, Gary Johnson told :

” I think Simon Gillett will be joining us at our training camp, I have let him have a think about what he wants to do…so I haven’t lost total hope of him just yet.”

With just over a week until the season starts Gillett will join the rest of the Yeovil Town squad with a view to signing for the club. This will come as quite a shock to Town fans as just a couple of days ago Johnson revealed to the Western Gazette that the players wages were at the heart of Gillett’s exit. With one of the smallest budgets in the league, Yeovil are not able to offer a huge amount of money to players. Johnson had said:

“Some of these players have been used to pretty high wages in their time. I think he is looking at other options at this moment in time. Myself, I think he will have made his decision by now. I’m comfortable with that so it’s not a problem.”

However, it seems that the player and the manager have come to some sort of agreement. Having spent most of last season on loan at Bristol City, his experience in League One could be vital for Yeovil Town as they look to strengthen their squad.
