West Brom look to hijack rivals Aston Villa move for Wolves defender

West Bromwich Albion are looking to hijack Aston Villa’s move to sign Wolves’ Kortney Hause according to a report from the Daily Mail.

For a while, it seemed very likely that Hause would be heading to Aston Villa. While he is well liked at Molineux, especially as he came through their academy, he has struggled to get first team football this season. He has only made two appearances for them and both of them in the Carabao Cup, with the 23-year-old not getting a look-in at Premier League action.

And so Aston Villa were hoping that they’d be able to sign him this transfer window. They had made a bid worth £2m and hoped that would be enough for Wolves are holding out for double that, causing a statement in negotiations over the last few days. And this sort of stalemate leaves it open for other teams to hijack that move.

And that’s what West Brom are wanting to do. With the Baggies still having their parachute payments, they could pay the amount that Wolves want and with their defence being leaky this season, Hause could be the reinforcement that helps them to get promoted back to the Premier League. However this would be a rare switch between the fierce Black Country rivals, something that has been very rare over the history of the two clubs. But if Wolves can get the right price and West Brom the right player, rivalries may be ignored to complete this deal in the next few days.
